I1 live in Los Angeles2 and I’ve had seven3 heart attacks, all imagined4. That is to say, I was deeply5 unhappy6 but I didn’t know7 it because I was so happy8 all the time9. I have a favorite quote about LA10 by William Shakespeare11. He said: “This other Eden12, demi-paradise13, this precious stone14 set in the silver sea15, this earth16, this realm17, this Los Angeles”. Anyway, this18 is what happened to me. And I swear it’s all true19.*

1 Steve Martin was born on August 14, 1945, in Waco, Texas, the son of Mary Lee and Glenn Vernon, a real estate salesman and aspiring actor. Martin was raised in Inglewood, California, and then later in Garden Grove, California, in a Baptist family. Martin was a cheerleader of Garden Grove High School.
2 “Sensuality can also be mute,

after all, it doesn’t have much to say,
though it writes itself beautifully.”
Sidonie by Ramón García
3 The art deco, the Spanish colonial revival, the midcentury modern, the postmodern, the Victorian, the dingbat and finally the American craftsman. With every move, the hope, the dream, the opportunity to reinvent your life aesthetic.
4 An 89-year-old man hurtled through a farmers’ market, killing 10 people. Defense attorneys argued that Weller was a victim of "pedal error”.

5 The pool is 1-ft-deep. Please don’t dive.
6 I turned 16 on January 17, 1994. Taco Bell drive through was closed that night, I had a bad feeling.
7 We all bring what we know. Transforming a pristine blank canvas into a personal oasis. All is accepted, even if it is sinful.
8 Throughout history, people moved West to find freedom, to be able to express themselves, Manifest Destiny.
9 There are no traces here. There is no singular thing that is intrinsic. Time is irrelevant. The traffic light flashes and informs the rhythm of the day.
10 El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles was the Spanish civilian pueblo founded in 1781.

11 José Luis Garcia is the combination of the most popular Mexican name and the most popular Mexican last name.
12 After my Tuesday After Work meeting, I overheard:
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
13 Westside Pavilion located at 10800 West Pico Boulevard in Rancho Park: Tai’s “near-death experience” took place just across from the escalator, outside of what is now Foot Locker.

14 Recalibrating balance, the body might dangle from the roof. Within the grooves and undulations, there is sand in my bed.
15 52 miles of concrete channel, constructed by the Army Corp of Engineers. A fictitiously activated site: home to car chases in films.
16 Los Angeles is everywhere. My home, your home, Paris, Chicago, a battleground.
17 Our kingdom on shaky soil, anchored by M5 Steel, one of the largest sheet metal manufacturing companies in the Western United States. Founded in Los Angeles in 1970, we are still family owned and operated.
18 Oil and Water: natural occurring substances that are both essential to the life of Angelinos. One is life giving and an essential element and the other is burned at a careless rate on an hourly basis. The five artists at Tin Flats – Andrea Marie Breiling, Conor Fields, Chandler McWilliams, Stephen Neidich, and Isabel Yellin – came to LA, this land of oil and water, from elsewhere, each with their own dreams, loves, and baggage.
19 There is a pornographic discrepancy between reality and representation for us.
